What is the new 'pillar' that Audi plans to add to their racing program? Audi AG released a peculiar statement today, giving very little insight into what the new venture may be.
"With the DTM, the FIA WEC and GT racing the successful motorsport commitment of AUDI AG is currently based on three mainstays. 2015 will see the addition of another pillar."
Seeing that they said 'another pillar' after naming WEC, we can virtually rule out a GTE program. The car is teased in the photo above, which closely resembles an Audi TT.
The car may compete in an Audi TT Cup that will replace the dying Scirocco Cup, which could serve as a training ground for future Audi drivers in GT racing.
Perhaps they are considering something completely different altogether though. Could they have Citroen in their crosshairs and want to take them on in the WTCC? Perhaps even a V8 Supercar program, joining fellow German marque Mercedes which has failed to achieve much success.
Could they be going the way of rally? With the stranglehold VW has on the WRC and even GRC, that's doubtful. VW also has a car in World RX.
The press conference will take place at the DTM finale in Hockenheim, "We would like to present all the details of an exciting new motorsport project under the banner of the four rings and the related race sports cars to you before the DTM finale at the Hockenheimring and cordially invite you to attend on Friday, October 17th."
