Hard Fought Pole to Flag Win for Liu in Round 3

It was battles all the way through the order in the Asian Touring Car Series Round 3 at Sepang International Circuit today. Liu Lic Ka claimed the win for Team IMSP after a hard fought battle with second placed man Charles Ng.

At the start, it was Danny Stacy Chau of Team IMSP that had the best of starts, taking Mak Ka Lok and Charles Ng and bearing down on pole sitter Liu. Then by turn seven, Ng managed to find a way past Danny Chau and a few turns after that Mak took third, leaving Danny Chau in fourth, positions they kept all the way to the chequered flag.

Behind them, Lui Man Kit caught up to Danny Chau but the experienced Hong Kong driver kept the RPM Racing Team at bay. By lap 9, the 2009 Championship winner, Cheung Chi Sing, caught up to the duo and took fifth from Lui, leaving him to fend off his younger brother Lui Man Fai for sixth into the last lap.

RPM Racing Team's Kuok Io Keong and privateer Chan Wing Shu had a tremendous nose to tail battle until lap 9 when Chan dropped down the ranks leaving Ben Law and Chan Ken Meng to finish ahead of him.

For race winner Liu, the first half of the race was tense, seeing him having to defend his position from the charging G.Harry Racing driver Ng who was not leaving him room to make any mistakes. When he did, Ng was right there to take advantage of it. Liu made two mistakes allowing Ng the chance to overtake but he quickly reclaimed the lead.

"I did not have such a good start which left Charles to catch up with me and we had a really good 'tango'. I managed to stay ahead of him to claim this win for the team.

"The car was not handling too well around the circuit so we will be making some adjustments to the suspension settings before the next race" said Liu after the race.

Ng was pressuring the Macau driver for the first half of the race before Mak Ka Lok caught up to him and started vying for second. The duo changed positions a few times and a last minute effort by Mak at the last turn on the last lap did not materialise as Ng went out wide and dived back up the inside to reclaim the position on the run to the chequered flag.

"Firstly I would like to thank G.Harry Racing for putting together a very well prepared car for me to race with which got me to this second place" said Ng.

"At the start I miss-shifted and lost a couple of spots but by turn 4 I caught up to the cars in front and by the second or third lap I caught up to Liu. His car is fast and he is a great driver so I could only stay consistent and hit my marks and wait for him to make a mistake. He did a couple of times, I got past him but in the end the tyres weren't holding up so I fell back and that was the start of another battle with Mak.

"Mak is a really fast guy and we swapped positions several times all the way to the end. It was a really tight race and I had a lot of fun" Ng concluded.

The duo looked exhausted but happy with the result and was seen congratulating one another after the race and commending each other for the great race.

An exhausted but happy looking Mak was quick with the praise for Ng "I am happy and I really appreciate the great battle I had with Charles".

On his outing today, Mak said "I did not have a good start, I shifted into the wrong gear and a couple of cars took me. I just stayed calm, to see what happened in front of me, and waited for the opportunity to reclaim my position. I followed Charles and halfway through the race I was able to catch up to him and at the last turn of the last lap he opened the door and I tried to take him for this last chance but I failed".

Not disappointed with the race, Mak said with a big smile "The first four drivers are really close in lap times and so I have a feeling that I will be fighting with Charles again in the next race". <pre> ATCS Round 3 Top 5 finishers
