FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ANDERSON SPEEDWAY PREPARES FOR SEASON OPENER
ANDERSON, Indiana (March 8) Trackside Associates, promoters of the Anderson Speedway, have released their 1996 schedule. Open practice, for all divisions, will kick things off right on Saturday March 30th. The first evening of competitive racing gets underway on Saturday night April 6th. The April event, the earliest opener, will feature the Hoosier Park Late Models, Figure 8's and Street Stocks.
Several special events are planned for the '96 season. The 48th annual Little 500 by Pay Less Markets is a go for Saturday May 25th. A weeks' worth of preliminary events will precede the best pavement sprint car show. One of the Little 500 preliminaries is the Emge 50. Drivers and crews use this as "tune-up" for the "500." It has been a fan favorite since its inception. The American Speed Ass'n Late Models will stop here for the Weidner Chevrolet Anderson 400. This race is to be Nationally te and is the premiere short track stock car race in the country.
In addition to the Hoosier Park Late Models, Figure-8's and Street Stocks, extra classes will visit this year. The traveling I-Car Modifieds roll in to town three times this year. The Hoosier Lottery will sponsor three special extended length Late Model races. The 100 lap "Triple Crown" events feature a separate points title. The exciting Open Competition Figure-8 cars replace the regular class four times and the NAMARS Midget/Auto Value series stops here once.
Jim Cooper, Tom Gossar and Chris Bair are the defending points champions. Each will have his work cut out to defend the title. Cooper took both the Hoosier Park Late Model championship and the Triple Crown title. Gossar won the Figure-8 season long "war" after putting away Rich Boyer late in 1995. Bair again dominated the Street Stocks but is experimenting with a Figure-8 car.
