Twenty-three year old Louis-Philippe Dumoulin of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec captured his fifth victory this season at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres, equalling the record of five wins in a season shared by two other drivers - Jason McCann and Stephen Adams. It was Louis Philippe's second win in as many days as the Canadian Formula Ford Championship held its annual double-header race event in Trois-Rivières.
Dumoulin, the driver of the AIM Autosport AutoValue/MCI/Michel Lebrun Aero-Ford started the 25-lap race from pole position and battled fiercely all race long with veteran Didier Schraenen. Dumoulin arrived in first place at the flag followed by Schraenen and Olivier Lambert.
"I am so pleased with this second win in front of my home crowd," Dumoulin said. The car was handling great - the AIM Autosport team gave me a fantastic car this weekend. I was battling with Schraenen when the full course yellow came. The team told me not to warm-up my tires during the caution period. At the restart, I took off perfectly and managed to pull away slightly from Schraenen. It was a great win. I have two races to go to break the record for victories in a season and the next race will be held in Mosport - a track I know very well."
AIM Autosport teamate Ashley Taws of Newmarket, Ontario, drove her "Be Anything With Barbie at Wal-Mart" race car to fifth-place finish. While Ashley was trapped in a five-car train battling for second through sixth. Fans held their breath as Ashley repeatedly tried to take fourth place, but she was foiled time after time and had to watch her back as Papineau looked for an opportunity to move up from sixth. The laps reeled off, but no-one was able to change position.
"It was tough out there," said Taws. "I think I could have gained a couple of places if I had got by Jean-Philippe (Papineau), but he didn't slip up and I couldn't take the place away from him. The Barbie car was awesome all weekend, thanks to AIM Autosport, and I had a great time in Trois Rivieres, thanks to all the great race fans here."
The next race will be held on Mosport International Raceway's road course on August 16-17 with the American Le Mans Series.
