Marco Werner Leads Farnbacher Team to Triple Victory in Spa

Stuttgart/Spa. Marco Werner stormed to victory ahead of his team mates Jorg Bergmeister and Philipp Peter at the ninth round of the Porsche-Pirelli-Supercup on the Belgian circuit of Spa Francorchamps. With his second victory of the season, Werner, who sits second overall in series, closed the gap to 14 points from series leader Jorg Bergmeister (victory yields 20 points). By netting third place today, top Supercup new-comer Philipp Peter from Austria brought home his best result of the season to date. All three drivers compete for the German Infineon Team Farnbacher.

Taking up the 10 lap race from pole position, Marco Werner clearly won the sprint to the first corner ahead of number two on the grid Stephane Ortelli (MC), with second row occupants Jorg Bergmeister and Philipp Peter also slipping past the Monegasque. Ortelli kept Peter under pressure over the entire race distance, but wasn't successful in wrestling third place off the Austrian.

Wolf Henzler, who travelled to Spa in third overall, saw the chequered flag in fourth place, and hence holds on to his overall ranking.

Vanina Ickx, daughter of six-time Le Mans winner Jacky, delivered an action-packed duel in the back third of the field to bring her 370 hp Porsche over the finish line a commendable 17th.

Marco Werner (D, winner): "This is my track, this is my weekend, and I'm thrilled. I found my driving rhythm right from the start. Jorg attacked in the first lap, but I always kept enough reserve to find an answer to his moves. I'd like to thank my team boss Horst Farnbacher and his team. We conducted some intensive testing here for three days before this racing weekend and it paid off."

Jorg Bergmeister (D, second): "I had the feeling I was much faster than Marco in the first three laps but then I experienced heavy oversteering and had to slow the pace a bit. I was relieved that my team mate Philipp Peter was behind me, so Stephane couldn't put me under pressure."

Philipp Peter (A, third): "Let's just say I'm a very happy man. I've worked long and hard for this result and I've learned a lot. It+s also fantastic for my team. What a great feeling to climb the podium. At the start I had to summon all my courage to get past Ortelli, and it worked like a dream. He put me under such pressure in the first laps that I couldn't imagine holding him off over the whole distance. I mean, Spa needs a lot of courage, and then comes this attack from behind - all I could think of was keeping my nose clean and grabbing that podium."

Stephane Ortelli (MC, fourth): "My start was perfect. I drove with all my heart and took every risk imaginable. I can't explain why, but the three Farnbacher cars were simply unbeatable today."
