In a closed auction yesterday (you had to ante up $46,000 in advance in order to participate), the U.S. Federal Bankruptcy Court has accepted a bid of $710,000 for famed Winchester Speedway on Route 32 west of Winchester, Indiana. With only two potential bidders represented, a combine of three eastern Indiana businessmen found their bid accepted by the judge after the only other bidder, Action Entertainment of Anderson, IN, withdrew at $700,000. The new owners are Charlie Shaw, owner of Astral Industries of Lynn, IN, Jeff Jeffers and Jim LaBar of Richmond, IN, owners of Hutton Stamping, Inc. According to news reports, Linda Holdeman will remain as operator of the facility which opens for the 1998 season March 31st with the traditional Rich Vogler Classic for USAC Sprints and Midgets. by Len in Indy
