Confidence high as Skerlong heads to Miller Motorsports Park
Mukilteo, Washington (May 17, 2006) - Emerging open-wheel stand-out Carl Skerlong hopes to maintain his level of domination in the Formula TR Pro 2000 Series this weekend as the stunning Miller Motorsports Park in Utah plays host to Rounds 7 and 8 of the championship, Saturday 20th - Sunday 21st May.
Skerlong, racing the #14 Odyssey Motorsports entry, boasts an enviable record of six wins from six starts this season having stepped up to race in the Formula Renault 2.0-ltr category following last year's championship triumph in the 1.6-ltr class.
Currently enjoying a 58-point advantage, 214-156, over his nearest title- rivals, John Knudsen and Dominic Scheer, Carl's sublime efforts behind the wheel have ensured he's swept virtually all available points, including those for pole position and fastest race lap, since the opening rounds of the Formula TR Pro Series back in March at the California Speedway, Fontana.
Top step lock-outs at Fontana, Buttonwillow and more recently at Willow Springs Raceway means Carl heads to the brand-new Miller Motorsports Park for Rounds 7 and 8 unbeaten this year but very much a marked man as his rivals look to close the gap to the teenage racer.
Dominic Scheer made Carl work for victory last time out in Round 5 at Willow Springs, Skerlong snatching the lead with just two laps remaining. There was to be no such repeat in Round 6 as Carl stamped his authority on proceedings with another flag-to-flag victory.
Reflecting on his recent successes Carl commented:
"Heading into this weekend's races I'm starting to feel a little more confident about our status in the championship, winning six races from six starts with track records at all three circuits has definitely been a boost. I'm also extremely happy with the crew, as well as the way we've gone about setting up the car. As a whole we're continually improving and the communication with my mechanics and engineers is great.
"I'm looking forward to racing in Utah this weekend, it's a new track for all of us but I'm confident we can maintain our advantage. We have a great bunch of guys on the team and the rest of the season I'm sure will be a productive experience for all of us, hopefully we'll keep the wins coming!"
