Skerlong leads Formula TR 2000 to Buttonwillow
Anaheim, California (April 06, 2006) - Buttonwillow Raceway Park hosts Rounds 3 and 4 of the Formula TR 2000 Series this weekend, Saturday 8th - Sunday 9th April. Series leader Carl Skerlong dominated the opening two rounds at the California Speedway last month, the Odyssey Motorsports driver laying down an ominous marker for his rivals capturing both poles, both wins and both fastest laps for a clean sweep of the points!
While the reigning Formula TR 1600 Champion enjoyed a perfect start to the season, John Knudsen (Knudsen Racing) remains in close pursuit courtesy of a pair of runner-up positions behind the teenage stand-out. Heading into this weekend's races at Buttonwillow the difference between the leaders sits at just 16 points and it's still very early days in the 18-round series.
Knudsen's team-mate, series rookie Dominic Scheer, started his campaign strongly with a third place podium finish in Round 1. He backed that up with a fifth place finish in Round 2 to currently sit third overall in the points. Bret MacDonald was the only other driver from Fontana to get a taste of the podium, the CT Motorsports racer passing Adam Davis (Welch Racing) on lap 13 for third in Round 2.
Dustin Welch just missed out on the podium in the opening round and, as with team-mate Adam Davis in the second race, he had to settle for fourth place. Elsewhere Bob Siska (Siska Racing) and Derek DeBoer (Welch Racing) will be keen to improve their consistency when they get to Buttonwillow following mixed weekends in Fontana last month.
Carl Skerlong set the benchmark for performance in the first two rounds and while he'll be keen to repeat 'the double' this weekend, the rest of the Formula TR 2000 pack will be hoping to stop the #14 Odyssey Motorsports car from racking up another points sweep,
Round 3 is set for Saturday, 8th April, with Round 4 taking place on Sunday, 9th April.
