BRATT GUNNING FOR DOUBLE VICTORY AT BRANDS
Oxon single-seater racer Will Bratt is setting his sights as high as possible ahead of the 15th and 16th rounds of the Formula Renault UK Championship at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit next weekend, 18th/19th August, with two race victories the centre of his focus.
The 19-year-old, from Adderbury near Banbury, has enjoyed an outstanding season so far and is currently an impressive third in the championship standings with a trio of tremendous race wins supplemented by three other podiums. Will also achieved his first ever category pole position starts at Croft in North Yorkshire at the start of June.
By far his most successful season since graduating to single-seater racing as a dominant T-Car Champion at the end of 2004, Will is very confident he can challenge for front row grid slots and race wins next weekend at Brands Hatch and in doing so help Loughborough-based Apotex Scorpio Motorsportremain in third place in the entrant standings.
"I definitely want to take two wins away from Brands Hatch and I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to do that", said the confident teenager, "I think we have a great chance, it's definitely there for us to achieve, and considering how good the car felt at Brands at the start of the season I think we have good reason to feel positive.
"During the season-opener I think we had the pace in the car to be on pole position and in the races I felt we had a set-up capable of winning, only bad luck prevented us from doing that. It's been a good year so far, especially since Croft, and I'm going all out to add more wins to the tally next weekend that's for sure."
On target to challenge for victory during the second round of the current campaign, which of course took place at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, Will was adjudged to have made a false start and the marginal decision robbed him of an undoubted second place finish and, potentially, what could have been his debut win.
After serving a drive-through penalty, Will recovered very well to finish inside the top 15 but he plans for the outcome next weekend to be much different. Nothing short of two podiums and, hopefully, a pair of victories, will satisfy the University of Oxford scholar.
Pre-event testing for the 15th and 16th rounds of the season at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit will take place next Friday, 17th August, with qualifying to follow at 09.00 and 14.25 on Saturday, 18th August, for rounds 15 and 16 respectively.
Both races are timetabled for Sunday, 19th August, with round 15 expected to begin at 10.00 and round 16 scheduled to get underway at 17.00. Digital satellite and cable subscription channel Setanta Sports 1 should carry both races live -- please check listings for more details and confirmation.
