CROFT TO HOST WINTER SERIES OPENING RACES

NORTH Yorkshire's Croft circuit will host rounds one and two of the 2008 Formula Renault UK Winter Cup on Saturday, 1s t November.

NORTH Yorkshire's Croft circuit will host rounds one and two of the 2008 Formula Renault UK Winter Cup on Saturday, 1s t November.

The preliminary schedule is for both series to have a single qualifying session followed by two races during the day, with full details to be announced in due course.

The Winter Cup offers drivers a chance to experience full race conditions ahead of the summer championship, something CR Scuderia Formula Renault's Scott Jenkins took advantage of in 2007.

He said: "I found it quite valuable because as well as testing you get to practice your race craft. Every bit of time you can get on the track and working with new engineers, mechanics and team-mates helps so I'm glad I took part. I'll see how I get on in the rest of this season but am considering racing this winter."

Last season's winter champion was Richard Singleton, who won round one and raced to 7th at Croft to take the title ahead of Riki and Adam Christodoulou.

RENAULT PAST - PAUL DI RESTA

Who: Third overall in 2004, Paul scored the most points of anyone in the second half of the season. Won the McLaren Autosport Young Driver of the Year award and went on to win the F3 Euroseries in 2006. Now races in the DTM series.

He says: "I had a difficult start to the year but I raced at Spa mid-season and that proved a turning point. It was too late to catch Mike (Conway) but I showed a bit more of my true speed. I learned a lot of basics about car racing and it prepared me for F3 as well as the racing I do now in the DTM." (Paul Di Resta)

OLLIE TO THE FOUR: Ollie Hancock took his fourth win of the season in round five of the Formula Renault BARC Championship on Bank Holiday, Monday, 26th May. The Apotex Scorpio Motorsport driver surged from fourth to first at the start of the race and held his nerve on two restarts to take the win ahead of Lee Dwyer and Isa Yousif.

- TWO DAYS of official testing were held at Croft on 22nd/23rd April with Alexander Sims setting the best time of day one at 1min 17.334s. On the following day it was James Calado who had the quickest time of 1min 16.756s. Sims, Adriano Buzaid and Riki Christo all headed individual sessions, Christodoulou's coming in wet conditions.

- EPISODE three of ITV's Motorsport UK programme drew a total audience of 400,000 across its four showings on ITV4, ITV1 and Men & Motors. The programme featured highlights of round two at Brands Hatch won by Riki Christodoulou. Round four at Rockingham is in episode five, which had its first showing on Tuesday, 27th May.

- REIGNING champion team Fortec Motorsport currently leads the Entrants' standings, but is just 15 points clear of CR Scuderia Formula Renault, team of drivers' standings leader Adam Christo. Manor Competition lies third, while Apotex Scorpio Motorsport, which won twice at Croft in 2007 courtesy of Will Bratt, is in fourth place.
