HYLKEMA SIXTH FASTEST FOR MANOR AT THRUXTON PRE-RACE TEST
Thomas Hylkema underlined his and Manor Competition's front-running credentials at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire yesterday, Tuesday, 14th April, during the official Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship test session for the second race meeting of the 2009 season.
Although rounds three and four of the campaign don't take place until 25th/26th April, with running at the 2.35-mile venue severely restricted yesterday's outing was actually the pre-event test for the second event of the year.
Hylkema, bouncing back well from a disappointing run during the first race meeting of the season at Brands Hatch at the beginning of the month, ended the Thruxton test sixth overall on combined times with a best lap of 1m 10.502 seconds (120.30mph) coming during the second of two sessions.
Placing him fourth quickest in that particular session, just three 10ths of a second away from the top of the timesheets, the Dutchman was a full seven 10ths of a second faster in the afternoon than his morning best of 1m 11.240 seconds (119.05mph).
David McDonald was also in fine form at Thruxton yesterday, the Surrey racer posting a top six time during the first session and lapping a whisker outside the top 10 during the second outing to end the day 11th fastest on combined times.
The 19-year-old's best lap of the day of 1m 10.710 seconds (119.94mph) came during the first 45-minutes of track action and saw him circulate within seven 10ths of a second of the top of the times. In session two, McDonald posted the 13th quickest time of 1m 10.817 seconds (119.76mph).
Alice Powell, preparing for her first ever single-seater race at Thruxton, was credibly just a second shy of the outright pace on combined times and concluded yesterday's outing as the sixth fastest Graduate Cup driver, 17th quickest overall.
Posting a time of 1m 11.270 seconds (119.00mph) during session one, the 16-year-old improved by almost three 10ths of a second in the afternoon with a time of 1m 10.992 seconds (119.47mph).
Manor Competition returns to competitive action over the weekend 25th/26th April at Thruxton with qualifying for round three of the 2009 season taking place at 09.00 on Saturday, 25th April. The round four session will follow at 14.00 with the first Michelin Formula Renault UK race of the weekend set to get underway at 17.35.
On Sunday, 26th April, round four will begin at around 15.20 and will be screened live on ITV4 as part of the station's coverage of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship raceday. The action can be followed on Freeview channel 28, through cable channel 117 and on digital satellite channel 120.
