SNETTERTON TEST SEES MANOR CONTINUE TOP FORM

Manor Competition continued its excellent return to form during official Formula Renault UK testing at Norfolk's Snetterton Circuit yesterday, Friday, 20th July, all three of the New Ollerton team's drivers ending the test inside the top 10 with a great all-round performance.

Round 12 race winner Alexander Sims continued his outstanding run by topping the times during the third of the day's three sessions with a lap of 1m 06.945 seconds (104.96mph), while his time of 1m 05.583 seconds (107.14mph) from session two was good enough to place him fourth fastest overall.

Team-mates Alex Morgan and Kris Loane both enjoyed superb outings to end the day eighth and ninth quickest overall, Welshman Morgan producing by far his strongest and most consistent performance of the season with the 10th fastest time in session one, and top seven performances in the two remaining sessions.

Morgan's best lap of the day, 1m 05.798 seconds (106.79mph), just shaded Loane's quickest time of 1m 05.849 seconds (106.71mph), both times set during session two, but the Northern Irishman's best placing came in the opening session when he posted the fifth fastest time to be the quickest of the Manor drivers, a terrific performance.

Tony Shaw, who along with wife Sarah owns and runs the Manor Competition squad, said: "We're all very happy with the way today has gone, it's been a very productive test for the team and to be fastest in the third session was a good end to the day. Sarah and I are working brilliantly together and there's a superb feeling within the team.

"We spent a long time on old tyres this morning doing some set-up work and the team did a fantastic job, we really are moving forward. Everyone is working fantastically well together and the drivers are all up-beat and happy which is terrific to see.

"Sarah did a wonderful job at Donington with the wet set-up and that work has rolled over to here where we've been strong in wet conditions again. Even though the drivers were bedding in brake pads during the wet session we were still very close to the pace so that is very positive indeed."

With such a promising day of testing following on from the team's most successful race meeting of the season at Donington Park last weekend, hopes are rightly high in the Manor camp the 13th and 14th rounds of the championship at Snetterton next weekend could reap the team's best results of the campaign.

"One of the main changes now is we are getting more and more feedback from the drivers as they gain experience and confidence and that's showing in our performance," added Shaw, "I see no reason at all why we can't continue to move forward and push for the podium next weekend.

"To have won at Donington was fantastic and now it's a case of maintaining that level of performance on a consistent basis which we're confident we'll be able to do, we've certainly done a good job today."

Rounds 13 and 14 of the 2007 Formula Renault UK Championship will take place at Snetterton just over a week from now, 28th/29th July, with a pre-event test at the Norfolk venue scheduled for Friday, 27th July.

The first qualifying session of the weekend is expected to take place at 10.35 on Saturday, 28th July, with the second session following at 14.40. Both races are timetabled for Sunday, 29th July, with round 13 getting underway at 11.10 and round 14 set to begin at 15.30. Digital satellite and cable subscription channel Setanta Sports 1 will screen both races live.
