WINTER SERIES QUARTET OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED AFTER STRONG FIRST TEST
Manor Competition is delighted to officially confirm its four driver line-up for the upcoming 2010 Formula Renault UK Winter Series which gets underway at Norfolk's Snetterton Circuit less than two weeks from now.
Category race winner Ollie Millroy remains with the New Ollerton squad for a title push and will be joined by newly crowned Formula Renault BARC Champion Alice Powell, Formula Ford front-runner Josh Hill and karting prodigy Jordan King.
"We're absolutely delighted to have secured such a strong line-up", said team boss Tony Shaw, "All four drivers tested together for the first time at Pembrey last week and it went well. Ollie was very quick, as we'd expect, Alice was straight on it and Josh and Jordan both did an excellent job. It looks set to be a good championship, we'd love to be able to carry this line-up through into next year too."
Millroy, who joined the Manor Competition ranks in time for the fourth race meeting of the recently concluded main championship, undoubtedly goes into the six round winter series as a potential title winner having ended his maiden season in Formula Renault UK sixth in the driver standings.
Taking his first category podium in only his third race with Manor, during round nine at Croft, the Claygate driver secured his maiden Formula Renault UK victory just two rounds later at Snetterton, from pole position, and claimed two other podiums before the end of the season. The 20-year-old also posted a pair of fastest race laps at Croft and Knockhill.
For Chipping Norton-based Powell the winter series marks a return to the team with which she made her single-seater debut in 2009. Making a major impact during her first year with Manor in Formula Renault UK, she had to step into the club-level Formula Renault BARC Championship this season due to budget restraints.
The move proved to be a great decision for the 17-year-old as she scorched to the 2010 title with a fantastically competitive campaign. Securing two race victories, five other podiums and a brace of pole positions, Powell sealed the championship in perfect style during the final round with a faultless winning drive.
Josh Hill arrives in Formula Renault UK after a tremendous second season of single-seater action in the ultra-competitive Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain where he won five races, took seven other podiums and also qualified on pole position three times.
Requiring no introduction at all, the Farnham-based son of 1996 FIA Formula One World Champion Damon Hill OBE and grandson of legendary double F1 champion Graham Hill will make his first steps into 'slicks and wings' racing with Manor Competition.
The Nottinghamshire team's fourth signing, karting sensation King, graduated to car racing little over a week ago during the final event of the 2010 Formula Palmer Audi Championship and absolutely stunned the category regulars with an incredible performance. Qualifying on pole position in his first outing, the 16-year-old went on to claim a debut podium in the third of the weekend's four encounters.
Harbury-based King's karting pedigree is tremendous with highlights including finishing second in the fiercely contested WSK Master Series this year, taking victory in the KF3 Kartmasters Grand Prix in 2009, winning the 2009 Asia-Pacific KF3 Championship and finishing runner-up in the 2008 Super 1 Rotax Mini Max Championship.
Rounds one and two of the 2010 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship are scheduled to take place at Snetterton on Saturday, 6th November, with rounds three, four, five and six to be contested at Pembrey in South Wales over the weekend 13th/14th November.
