GRADUATE CUP VICTORY FOR ADAM CHRISTODOULOU!

AKA Cobra driver, Adam Christodoulou, secured the 2007 Formula Renault Graduate Cup yesterday, also finishing the year in fourth place in the overall Championship, a fantastic achievement for a rookie. In addition to this his on-track performance earned him pole position for both of the weekend's races.

The AKA Cobra team now moves straight into making preparations for the Formula Renault Winter Series which gets underway at Donington Park in just three weeks' time.

Adam Christodoulou:
Race 1: Qualified 1st, Finished 12th
Race 2: Qualified 1st, Finished 2nd

"When we went into qualifying I didn't know quite what to expect. I put a time in before the session was red flagged and it was good enough for pole position so I was very pleased with that. There was another red flag during my first quick lap of the second session but I managed to make some space and put together a good lap after that, taking pole again. Obviously I was delighted! I bogged down a bit at the start of race one so (Duncan) Tappy took the lead but I took it back by going around the outside at the first complex. I started to pull away for a few laps then the next thing I knew I had Riki (Christodoulou) right behind me. After a few laps under the safety car we were free to race and Riki and I had a great battle for four laps but unfortunately collided at the last corner. I could only struggle home in 12th place after that with a bent car! I was disappointed but really enjoyed the close racing. I got bogged down again at the start of race two and had to fight my way through to second and this time it was me chasing Riki. We were both quicker than each other at different parts of the circuit so it was a bit of a yo-yo situation and I couldn't get through. I pushed him all the way though and took second place at the flag. It feels great to win the Graduate Cup. At the beginning of the season I would have said I'd be happy with sixth or seventh in the overall Championship so to take fourth is amazing. Next up for me is the Winter Series, again with AKA Cobra, and I plan to do Formula Renault again in 2008."

Jeremy Metcalfe:
Race 1: Qualified 9th, Finished 5th
Race 2: Qualified 9th, Finished 7th

"We couldn't have expected much better than the results we achieved today after qualifying. I think I've done as well as I could have, I made up some places and raced pretty well. After the safety car in the first race we had no rear-end grip which was a real problem and then in the second race I think we perhaps went too far the other way with our changes as I had some problems with grip at the front. Nonetheless, fifth and seventh places from the fifth row on the grid can't be considered too bad. Unfortunately this weekend hasn't been the end I wanted to my Formula Renault career but I've had a couple of wins and some other podiums so I can't complain too much. It's been a tough season, we did hope to challenge for the title but sometimes the luck doesn't run with you and we've certainly not had the best fortune this year."

Chris Holmes:
Race 1: Qualified 15th, Finished 9th
Race 2: Qualified 12th, Finished 17th

"This last weekend at Thruxton wasn't quite the finish I was hoping for to the 2007 season. I lost time in the first qualifying session, and just couldn't get any more speed out of the car in the second, so I had mid-grid start positions for both races. The car felt better as I got into the first race; this was a good race for me as I started 15th and finished 10th. After that result I was hoping for a good race two to round off my season. Unfortunately I was hit from behind on lap one and had to pit with a right rear puncture. I was able to rejoin but, a lap down, I was unable to compete for points. It's a frustrating way to finish the season as I know I can do better than this. Although things haven't gone my way this year, certainly in terms of luck, I feel I have learnt a lot and would really like to do Formula Renault again in 2008. I still believe I can win in this series so the search for the 2008 budget starts now!"

Nathan Caratti:
Race 1: Qualified 12th, DNF
Race 2: Qualified 13th, 12th

"I got a really good start in race one and it was looking good for me as I moved up from 12th to seventh. Unfortunately when (Jordan) Oakes ran wide at Goodwood I was unsighted and followed him off! I got another good start in the second race, moving up to just outside the top ten. Apart from a battle with Adriano (Buzaid) it was a fairly straightforward race for me and I concentrated on keeping it clean as I really wanted to get a finish. Overall I'm a bit disappointed, of course I am, but you have to keep moving forward so now I can't wait for the Winter Series to start!"
