Di Resta made a great start from pole position and quickly pulled out a comfortable lead over James Jakes who started in second. Jakes however succumbed to the pressure behind him and ran wide at Becketts and lost eleven places. This promoted Storckenfeldt to second place and he set about making up the gap to di Resta. Juan Polar toured back to the pits at the back of the field with a right-rear puncture.

Championship leader Mike Conway set about making up places from seventh on the grid and hew was fifth by the end of the opening lap. Westley Barber also made a great start and moved up from tenth to seven, which became sixth on the next lap after diving down the inside of Sean McIntosh at the Abbey hairpin. Conway then passed Stephen Simpson with a clean move to take fourth place and then went wheel-to-wheel with Patrick Hogan on the following lap to move up to third.

Ben Freudenberg and Ruben Carrapatoso collided at Abbey as the Brazilian tried to get past and Freudenberg was out on the spot. James Jakes and David Epton also collided at Becketts and both drivers were out on the spot. Barber continued his rise through the field and, like Conway before him, ran wheel-to-wheel with Hogan to move up to fourth on lap eight. Joey Foster slipped down the field after suffering a broken nose and Michael Vitulli toured round with a broken rear wing.

Storckenfeldt closed right up on the back of Di Resta and spent three laps following his rear wing. Storckenfeldt pulled alongside on the back straight on lap eleven and dived down the inside at the Abbey chicane. He quickly pulled out a two second lead over the remaining three laps to take his first win in the series.
