CONSISTENCY THE KEY FOR METCALFE AT SILVERSTONE

Formula Renault UK race-winner Jeremy Metcalfe concluded the opening day of official pre-season testing at Silverstone National Circuit this afternoon in confident mood, the Hampshire ace lapping consistently close to the outright pace during all three sessions.

The Fleet 17-year-old, driving for the re-branded Team Lemac AKA, ended the Ash Wednesday test seventh overall on the timesheets with a best lap of 55.120 seconds (107.04mph), just three 10ths of a second shy of pace-setter Cheng Congfu.

"It's been a good day", commented Jeremy at the end of test, "I haven't been back to Silverstone since last season's race so I was very keen to find a rhythm and then post some consistent lap times.

"I'm pretty happy with the way things have gone, especially as we remained on old tyres throughout the day and didn't take fresh rubber at all. Without pushing too hard we were quick so it's quite encouraging to have ended the test just three 10ths of a second down on the quickest time of all."

Since achieving his maiden category race victory during the 2005 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship, Jeremy has been in tremendous form and he's now eager to get back in the car tomorrow morning for day two of the Silverstone test.

"The National Circuit is a good track and I'm looking forward to the second day", added Jeremy. "I'm confident we can be there or thereabouts in terms of pace. There are some very quick drivers in the championship again this year but I'm happy with what we've achieved in testing so far and I think we have every chance of doing well this season."

Day two of official pre-season testing at Silverstone National Circuit takes place tomorrow, 2nd March, beginning at 09.00.
