METCALFE MAKES GOOD START TO BIRTHDAY WEEKEND AT BRANDS

Victory on his 18th birthday weekend would clearly be the best present Jeremy Metcalfe could wish for and after a solid start during pre-event testing at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit today, the Fleet teenager is confident of his chances of success.

The Team Lemac AKA star, who will celebrate his landmark birthday on Sunday, lapped the 1.2-mile Kent venue with a best time of 44.599 seconds (98.97mph) during the second of today's two Formula Renault UK test sessions and is confident there is much more to come tomorrow during qualifying for the opening two races of the 2006 season.

Ending the morning session with the fifth fastest time of 44.610 seconds (98.95mph), Jeremy lapped marginally quicker during the afternoon but felt he would have been much faster had he been able to make the most of his new tyres before the second session finished.

He commented: "Everything went well today, we didn't have any problems at all. In the last session I was second fastest and we only slipped down the order due to some of the other drivers using new tyres before we did.

"They had the benefit of a proper run on their new rubber but we didn't take fresh tyres soon enough and so there just wasn't the time left in the session for us to hit back and move closer to the top again. It's not a problem though, I know we'll be fast tomorrow in qualifying and I'm feeling confident it'll be a good weekend."

Qualifying to determine the grid for round one of the Formula Renault UK Championship is scheduled to take place at 10.20 tomorrow, Saturday, 8th April, with the round two session expected to commence at 14.40.

On raceday, Sunday, 9th April, round one is set to begin at 11.55 while round two will start at 16.30. Both races are timetabled to be broadcast live on digital satellite station Motors TV, channel 413 of the Sky Digital platform.
