OULTON TEST UNDERLINES BRATT'S GENUINE FRONT-RUNNING PACE
Will Bratt continued his stunning start to the 2006 Formula Renault UK Championship at Oulton Park Island Circuit today, the 18-year-old steering his Scorpio Motorsport car to a richly deserved top-four time in official testing.
Ahead of the third and fourth rounds of the season, which will take place at the Cheshire venue on 13th/14th May, Will repeated the same front-running form he displayed at Brands Hatch during the first two rounds of the season to end today's sessions with a fastest time of 1m 19.248 seconds.
Quicker than the likes of pre-season championship favourite Sebastian Hohenthal and Brands Hatch race winner James Sutton, the Adderbury sensation enjoyed a highly productive day's running and is now rightly confident of achieving career-best results when he returns to Oulton Park in a fortnight's time.
During the first of the day's two sessions, Will posted the 10th fastest time with a lap of 1m 20.331 seconds (99.75mph). But after using newer tyres later in the afternoon, the Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed ace knocked more than a second off his earlier best to move into the top four -- six 10ths of a second adrift of pace-setter Patrick Hogan.
"Things haven't gone too badly at all today", said a delighted Will, "The car certainly felt really good and while I would have preferred to have been closer to Paddy (Hogan) it's fantastic to have ended the test inside the top four. There's been nothing to complain about at all, it's been a really good day's testing.
"We went out this morning on very old tyres as we were trying a few different set-ups on the car, so to end the first session 10th fastest was pleasing considering we weren't trying for out and out quick times. When we used new rubber later on though we went much quicker, the whole team is very happy.
"I'm pleased with our performance today as it underlines our pace at Brands Hatch was completely genuine and the top six is where we can realistically hope to be when we return to Oulton Park. Obviously I'll be aiming as high as possible but I really do think we have a great chance of continuing our good start to the year"
Rounds three and four of the 2006 Formula Renault UK Championship will take place at Oulton Park on Saturday, 13th May, and Sunday, 14th May. The second of the weekend's races will be broadcast live on Motors TV, channel 413 of the Sky Digital platform.
