BRATT AIMING FOR IMPROVEMENTS AFTER DONINGTON GP TEST
Scorpio Motorsport's Will Bratt ended official testing at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit this afternoon disappointed with the 12th fastest time, but the Formula Renault UK race-winner is still confident of qualifying inside the top six for this weekend's two races.
Acting as support to the World Series by Renault category, the 15th and 16th rounds of the Formula Renault UK season take place on the Leicestershire venue's full Grand Prix layout on Sunday, 10th September. But during today's test at the 2.5-mile circuit, Will was unfortunately unable to extract the performance he wanted from his car.
The 18-year-old's quickest lap of the afternoon, 1m 31.1 seconds (98.79mph), placed him approximately half a second shy of the top three, a battle with oversteer for the entire session preventing Will from posting the sort of time he knows he is capable of.
"I'm a bit disappointed to have only managed the 12th fastest time today", commented Will at the conclusion of the three-hour session, "The car needs a bit more balance. We did try some adjustments but couldn't seem to sort out the oversteer which we struggled with at just about every corner.
"I'm confident the team will be able to improve the car ahead of qualifying on Saturday though and I think we should be able to realistically aim for the top six. It's a shame we'll only have one session to set fast laps for both grids, it'll be hectic and so very important to make enough space to get at least two clear runs."
Rather than individual qualifying sessions for the weekend's two races, as normally experienced in Formula Renault UK, competitors will only have one 20-minute period on Saturday, 9th September, in which to qualify for the 15th and 16th rounds of the season.
The race meeting also marks the second visit of the season for the Formula Renault UK Championship to Donington Park. During the previous event, at the end of July on the 1.95-mile National Circuit, Adderbury-based Will achieved his second podium of the year at Loughborough-based Scorpio's 'home' track.
Heading into this weekend seventh overall in the championship standings, the Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed star is also in contention for the prestigious Donington Park Racing Association Club (DPRAC) Cup which will be raced forin front of an expected 50,000 spectators.
The trophy will be presented at the conclusion of Sunday's race action to the driver who has scored the most points over the course of the four Formula Renault UK races which will have been contested at Donington this season.
Qualifying for rounds 15 and 16 will take place on Saturday, 9th September, at 13.25 with both races scheduled for Sunday, 10th September. Round 15 will begin at 10.00 with round 16 expected to start at 16.00.
