BIRD SOARS TO DOUBLE POLE IN CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE

Sam Bird, 19, Claygate, Surrey, today achieved his first double pole position in qualifying for the Formula Renault UK finale.

The last two races of the season will take place tomorrow, Sunday October 15th at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, where all early events were put back by over an hour due to extremely foggy conditions. However, the organisers did a superb job to catch up with the busy schedule.

Tomorrow's races are scheduled for 9am and 2.15pm but it is likely that the morning race could be delayed if the past two days' conditions continue.

A very happy Sam said afterwards "although I was quickest in practice here earlier in the year, my practice session yesterday wasn't perfect so to qualify on pole for both races today is just a dream. I hope to get a good start, get my head down and make it through to the flag without incident. Sadly, I can't improve on my current championship position due to unfortunate incidents earlier in the year, but I believe that coming 3rd as a rookie is a great position to be in."
