CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER SHAWYER AIMING FOR DOUBLE CROFT WIN

Formula Renault BARC Championship leader Matt Shawyer returns to action this weekend with the Russell Racing team for the first double-header meeting of the season, rounds three and four at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire.

Having taken a brace of podium finishes from the first two races of the year, second place at Silverstone and third position at Snetterton respectively, the 23-year-old from St Albans is fully focused on not only achieving his maiden Formula Renault victory, but on making the weekend a winning double for Russell Racing.

"Obviously I'm delighted to be back out with Russell Racing", said Matt, "When I joined the team for the first round of the year at Silverstone I certainly didn't expect to be in the position I am now, leading the championship. We've had two successful races so far but now I want to win and I'm confident we stand a terrific chance this weekend."

Almost immediately after the two Croft races, Matt will be boarding a flight to Zhuhai in China ahead of his first outing in the Asian Formula Renault Championship on 27th/28th May, so his aim is to head to the Far East on a high with two victories under his belt.

The BRDC Rising Star added: "It's great to be racing at Croft and it falls just a week before my first race in China, so I want to go over there on a real high. Being on the podium at both Formula Renault BARC rounds so far has been fantastic but I want to be on the top step and hopefully I'll be able to give Russell Racing its first victory.

"I really enjoy Croft, I won there in the past in Formula Ford so I'm looking forward to the weekend and aiming to win both races. We fly out to China on Monday, almost as soon as we're back from Croft, so if I can give the team its first win and maintain the lead in the championship I'll be absolutely delighted."

Russell Racing has enjoyed a near dream start to its first ever season in the Formula Renault BARC Championship and while fully appreciating how competitive the FR 2000 class of the slicks and wings series is this year, everyone within the Doncaster team is hoping to taste victory not once, but twice over the weekend.

Qualifying for both races is scheduled to take place at 11.05 on Saturday, 20th May, with the third round of the season set to get underway at approximately 13.45. Round four is expected to start at 13.05 on Sunday, 21st May.
