Sterling, Virginia (May 03, 2007) -- The Formula TR Pro Series 2000 Championship roars back into life this weekend, Saturday 5th -- Sunday 6th May, with Rounds 5 and 6 hosted at California's Willow Springs Raceway. Virginia's Liam Kenney has had to wait patiently for a return to action, seven weeks passing since he last raced in Round 4 at the California Speedway, Fontana.
The season's opening back-to-back, double-header race weekends in March proved eventful for the 15-year-old pilot of the #95 Liam Kenney Motorsports entry. Graduating from a decorated season in the Formula TR Pro Series 1600 Championship, Kenney's best finish of the 2007 season so-far is a fourth place effort in Round 2 at Fontana.
Bad luck and mechanical failures have blighted the talented teenager's opportunities to push for his first win of the season but Kenney has proved to be a consistent force in qualifying, comfortably sealing second row grid slots at the Fontana rounds but aiming to go one better at Willow Springs Raceway this weekend.
Setting leading lap times in Wednesday's open test session at the track, Liam's looking forward to unleashing his 200bhp Formula Renault in Saturday and Sunday's races.
"Yesterday's test at Willow Springs went really well," Kenney reflected. "The car's running strong and we set some pretty fast lap times during the course of the day. It was a productive test and I feel pretty comfortable heading into this weekend's races. It's one of my favorite tracks, it has a really gutsy layout and I love the challenge of its fast corners. Overall I think it's going to be a great weekend for us and I hope to get back up there in the title fight."
Kenney previously raced at Willow Springs at the corresponding Formula TR Pro Series meeting last year. Having had four straight podium finishes to start his rookie car racing season running in the 1600 class, an incident in Round 5 at the Rosamond, California track limited him to an eighth place finish. Round 6 was a more productive affair with a fourth place finish enough for Liam to hold on to second place in the Driver Standings.
Liam Kenney will contest the full 20-race Formula TR Pro Series 2000 Championship, campaigning his Formula Renault 2.0-litre open-wheel race car over 10 double-header weekends from March to November 2007. Circuits visited include California Speedway, Miller Motorsports Park, Buttonwillow Raceway and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
