Formula TR 1600 Series heads to Nevada for Reno challenge
Anaheim, California (June 22, 2006) - Reno Fernley Raceway plays host to Rounds 9 and 10 of the Formula TR 1600 Series this weekend, Saturday 24th - Sunday 25th June, as Parker Kligerman heads to Nevada looking to stretch his sizeable points margin, currently standing at 86, over Paladin Motorsports team-mate Liam Kenney in second place.
Kligerman's dominance, with seven wins in eight starts, has been the story of the year with the rookie racer proving virtually unstoppable as the series reaches the half-way stage of the season this weekend. Only once this year has Parker been dethroned from the top step of the podium back in Round 4 at Buttonwillow courtesy of a fine drive from Odyssey Motorsports Alexander Rossi. The championship leader responded to that loss with four straight wins over the following two rounds at Willow Springs Raceway and last month's trip to the brand new Miller Motorsports Park.
On that occasion Liam Kenney and Billy Goshen, second and third in the title race respectively, battled for the remaining podium spots with the young chargers sharing a second and a third place each from the Utah double- header. Both will be out to depose Kligerman at the 2.3-mile Reno-Fernley Raceway this weekend, joined by Rossi, who having missed a couple of starts due to additional race commitments, now remains in play, and therefore a threat for further victories, for the remainder of the season.
Tayler Malsam and Luis Martinez Jr. fall firmly into the 'ones-to-watch' category as they continue to develop in the 1600 class, Martinez Jr. having come close to a pair of podiums last time out. CT Motorsport welcomes back Kerstin Smutny and Cam Grisdale for this weekend's races having had both drivers absent from the previous round. Tony Welch will be missed in Nevada as Welch Racing takes a short two-round sabbatical following team- owner Jerry Welch's successful operation for lung cancer.
Round 9 takes place at Reno-Fernley Raceway on Saturday, 24th June, with Round 10 held the following day, Sunday 25th June - www.reno- fernleyraceway.com
