Formula Renault, BMW Races Added to Sahlen's Weekend

Watkins Glen, NY (May 12, 2004) - Watkins Glen International officials announced today that they have added two additional races to complement the already-scheduled Grand-Am Cup 250 and the featured Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen during this year's Sahlen's Sports Car Grand Prix, June 18-20. North American Formula Renault Championships and the Genesee Valley Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America will add to an already action-packed weekend of racing at the historic race course. Both races are scheduled for Saturday, June 19th.

"We are always looking for ways to enhance our existing race weekends," said track President Craig Rust. "Formula Renault and the Genesee Valley BMW Club are two more exciting events that fans have to look forward to on a weekend that continues to grow."

The North American Formula Renault Championships are sanctioned by Grand American, and provide a ladder for drivers to develop their talent, with a full in-house open-wheel progression available. The Formula Renault V6 Championship is the top rung on the North American Formula Renault Championship ladder, which also includes the North American Formula Renault 1600 Championship and the North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship. The Formula Renault V6 is expected to make its North American competition debut in the latter stages of the 2004 North American Formula Renault 2000 season.

"We are looking forward to racing at The Glen with Grand American this June," said North American Formula Renault 2000 General Manager Brett Ross. "To race on a world-famous track that has hosted drivers with names like Andretti, Stewart, and Fangio is a tremendous opportunity for our drivers."

The Genesee Valley BMW Club is a frequent visitor to The Glen during the summer and isn't a stranger to spectator events, having most recently participated in the 2001 Chemung Canal Trust Historic Races when BMW was honored as the featured marque. The Chapter consists of over 800 members in the Western New York and Ontario Canada area and is based in Rochester, NY.

Sports car racing takes center stage at The Glen with the return of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series and a large field of exciting Daytona Prototypes in the Sahlen's Sports Car Grand Prix, June 18-20. There's plenty of action scheduled for the weekend, highlighted by Sunday's Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. Leading up to the main event, you won't want to miss an action-packed Grand-Am Cup 250 on Saturday afternoon, preceded by Formula Renault and the Genesee Valley BMW club. Saturday also boasts the Auto Game Custom Import/Domestic Auto Show in Turn Ten. And, treat Dad to a day at the track with the Father's Day Special - two Sunday General Admission tickets PLUS a parade lap. Event tickets start at only $30 and are now sale.
