Having recently taken its first steps on the track, New Formula Renault 2.0 was this week unveiled in a sneak preview to the promoters of the European Formula Renault 2.0 championships. They were all impressed by Renault Sport latest version of the world-famous single-seater.
Throughout Europe, Formula Renault 2.0 has over the years established itself as the leading entry-level model in single-seater racing. Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton, Heikki Kovalainen, Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica are just a few of the drivers who have made their mark in a Formula Renault 2.0 before stepping up to Formula 1.
On June 8, 2009, promoters from all the European championships were invited to Renault Sport Technologies' head office in Les Ulis to get their first glimpse of New Formula Renault 2.0. Mick de Haas, promoter of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup and Formula Renault 2.0 Finland, Barbara Petrivelli, promoter of Formula Renault 2.0 Italia, Andre Hefti, promoter of Formula Renault 2.0 Switzerland, Patrick Sinault, promoter of the Formula Renault 2.0 West European Cup and Simon North, promoter of Formula Renault 2.0 UK all had the chance to see up close the quality of the assembly and finish of this new carbon-fibre bodyshell single-seater, which complies with the 2009 FIA F3 safety standards.
Renault Sport Technologies' teams presented the strengths of New Formula Renault 2.0, which have been emphasized during initial development testing. The promoters were all impressed by the car's outstanding features such as the new aerodynamic setup, the seven-speed sequential gearbox, the F4R832 engine derived from Clio Renault Sport phase II, the latest generation engine ECU fitted with a comprehensive data acquisition system, the electronically-controlled, steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles and the colour instrumental panel integrated into the steering wheel.
