NEC off to the Nuerburgring for deciding round in the championship
The Northern European Cup is getting ready for the eighth and very last round of the 2010 season, to be held during the VLN event at the Nuerburgring. Twenty Formula Renault's come together to fight for the final three victories and valuable last points for the championship.
Belgian Ludwig Ghidi has a solid lead in the Formula Renault 2.0 championship, with a 41-point advantage towards closest competitor Mikkel Mac. The young Danish has a hard task this weekend, not only going for the lead but also defending his second place against Jeroen Mul for Van Amersfoort Racing. However, with 90 points to earn during the weekend and the unpredictable conditions of the Nuerburgring, anything is possible.
Brothers Dear and Daniel Schilling are battling for the title in the 2000 standings, but have seen Johann Ledermair drawing closer and closer during the previous round at the world famous track of Spa-Francorchamps. The talented Austrian for Lohmann Motorsport has only 7 points to Daniel and 33 to go for the first Schilling.
The last round of the championship welcomes both new entries and familiar faces. Daniel de Jong and Karl Oscar Liiv are among the familiar ones with Dutch MP Motorsport. Together with Kevin Mirocha for SL Formula, these registrations add three very experienced drivers to the grid. The 2000 series also welcomes back drivers from earlier rounds, such as Leopold Ringbom for P1 Motorsport and Amir Mesny with the French team of ARTA Engineering.
The VLN weekend only takes place on Friday and Saturday, which makes the programme for the Northern European Cup crammed with action. The NEC starts on Friday morning the fifteenth of October with a 45 minute free practice at 8 AM, to be followed by the qualifying session at 10.45 AM. The first race of the last event in 2010 is set for Friday 13.55 PM, the second and third are scheduled for the Saturday at 10.25 AM and 16.25 PM. The winning teams and drivers will be honoured during the 2010 ceremony in the Eifel - Stadl directly after the races at 18.00 PM.
