Czech Premiere for Northern European Cup
From Friday the 28th of August until Sunday the 30th, the Northern European Cup will race its first event ever in the Czech Republic, during the Truck Prix at the Autodrom Most. The event of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship will host the sixth meeting (races 11 and 12) in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup.
The weekend starts of with a test day on Thursday the 27th. The last official test in the series of 2009 will prepare the drivers for the track, which is unknown to the majority of them. The test will include four times an hour drive spread over the entire day, so teams and drivers can use their time in order to find the perfect set up for this weekend.
The weekend will be filled with a large variety of motorsports, offering an exciting programme for everyone having affinity for speed and impressive cars. As mentioned, the FIA European Truck Racing Championship will be hosting the event, combined with the European Sports Car Challenge 2009. The latter positions itself as the Central European motor racing series for sports prototype cars and single seaters. Last but not least, Formula Renault 2.0 NEC will share the asphalt this weekend with the Czech Skoda Octavia Cup.
The top three in the overall standings will definitely put every effort in maintaining the lead in the championship. Portuguese Antonio Felix Da Costa, currently also in charge of the EUROCUP Championship is going to try to drive further away from his competitors. If he repeats his double win from the last race in Assen, it will be virtually impossible to pass anymore, with just two weekends at the Nurburgring and Spa Francorchamps to go.
Qualifying will start at 11.35 on Saturday the 29th of August. Teams and drivers then have another 4 hours to optimize the car for the first race of the weekend and the 11th race in the championship at 17.20 that same Saturday. The reversed grid during the second race scheduled for the Sunday at 15.40 always causes a lot of extra overtaking and excitement.
The Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup especially welcomes the four guest drivers for the weekend in Most. Kai Boller from Germany will drive with SL Formula, and the already participating EUROCUP team of Jozef Krenek will have a third car running with Jakub Klasterka. Czech team Palmi Motorsport adds another two cars to the starting grid (Jakub Hora'k and David Palmi), which makes an impressive number of 26 Formula Renault cars present on the Truck Prix in Most.
