Kuba Giermaziak -- Mixed results in Oschersleben

The Motopark Academy rookie driver was disappointed as he left the team's home track on Sunday. After showing great improvement in wet conditions, Kuba had to settle with a top ten finish and a retirement on the weekend's races.

After completing the Free Practice sessions in both dry and wet conditions, Kuba lined up for the double qualifying session in a completely flooded track. The session started off in a very positive way, as he was very close to the frontrunners. Unfortunately he dropped some positions, and then crashed as he tried hard to improve his times. This was not all, as there was too much damage to the car, and so he could not take part in the second session. This meant he would be starting Saturday's race from 13th place and the race on Sunday from the back of the grid.

The team did a great job to fix and prepare the car in time for the first race of the weekend and Kuba, determined to put the problems in qualifying behind him, drove a solid race under heavy rain and difficult conditions, and finished Race 1 in 9th position.

Starting at the back, and with nothing to lose, Kuba decided to try and make the best of the start for Race 2. He got off the line very quickly and had already passed four cars as he went into the first corner. At this point he collided with another car, and lost his front wing. Kuba pushed on for another three laps, but his race finished early, as he went off in a high speed corner.

Speaking on Sunday, the young Polish driver commented that "It was a frustrating weekend for me. For sure we made good progress in wet conditions, but I expected better results here. Anyway, there are only two events to go this year, and I am really looking forward to finishing the season with good results!"

The Formula Renault Northern European Cup is back in two weeks, for the final back to back rounds, taking place in Spa-Francorchamps and Hockenheim.
