Best results of the season for Kuba Giermaziak!
The rookie driver made another step forward in his first year of racing, securing two Top 10 finishes at the 5th round of the Formula Renault Northern European Cup, held at the famous Nurburgring in Germany.
The Motopark Academy driver's weekend got off to a flying start, as the claimed the 6th fastest time in Free Practice, very close to his experienced team mates, who held the top 4 positions.
The two qualifying sessions produced different results: Kuba was 9th fastest on the first session, his best effort so far, but a problem with his car forced him to come back into the pits before he could post a time in the second session. The team did an excellent job to repair the car, and Kuba went back out with just enough time for one flying lap, securing 16th place on the grid for Race 2.
"P9 was my best qualifying result so far, but I'm still a little disappointed because I know I can do better.", commented the young Polish driver after the qualifying session. "I really have to thank my mechanics for repairing the car so quickly! If it wasn't for them I would be starting Sunday's race from the back of the grid."
The first race didn't start so well, as Kuba hit another car in the first corner, dropping to 14th position after the first lap. He then drove a faultless race, passing two cars and benefiting from a crash ahead of him to finish in a very positive 10th place.
Starting in 16th place for Race 2, Kuba was determined to get a good result. An excellent start rocketed him to 11th place after the first corner! He was then driving right in the middle of a big group of cars. The racing was very close, but the rookie kept pushing, while at the same time defending his position. A few laps later 3 cars tangled and he moved up to 8th place. Finding himself isolated on the track, Kuba opened a gap to the drivers behind him, and then controlled this advantage until the end of the race.
"I'm very happy with this weekend! However, we know it is still possible to do better and will continue working hard until the end of the season", a visibly satisfied Kuba commented on Sunday.
Both driver and team head straight for a two day test at their home track in Oschersleben, in order to prepare for the next round of the Formula Renault NEC which takes place on the final weekend of September.
