Double podium for Koiranen bros. in Oschersleben
Koiranen bros. Motorsport had their best weekend of the season in the Formula Renault Northern European Cup (NEC), with Daniel Aho finishing on the podium twice and Bart Hylkema completing both races in the Top 10.
Both drivers were on good form from the beginning, driving in the Top 10 on the Free Practice sessions. They kept their pace in the double qualifying session and Aho put his car on the front row twice, narrowly missing Pole Position! His Dutch team mate also did a good job and qualified 8th and 9th for the two races of the weekend.
On Saturday's race Aho had a good start and kept his second position. He was under intense pressure from the driver behind him throughout the race and could not challenge the leader. The Finn made no mistakes and finished in a well deserved 2nd place. Sunday's race was a little easier for Aho: Settling in 3rd place after the first laps he drove a steady race to claim his second podium of the weekend.
Bart Hylkema drove two strong races. The young Dutch driver made no mistakes, had many on track battles and made up several positions to take home a season best 5th and 7th places.
Chief Engineer Jari Koiranen was pleased after the weekend, commenting that "It was a good weekend for us. Daniel was very strong and it was good to see him on the front row and also on the podium! Bart had some problems in qualifying but he drove very well in the races. The whole team is really happy with the performance of our drivers and with the work we did here in Oschersleben".
The Formula Renault NEC now has a four week break before things get busy again. On the first weekend of August the teams will be back in action at the Dutch track of Assen, and from there they will head straight to Zolder, in Belgium, where the NEC will be part of the support program for the prestigious Masters of Formula 3 weekend.
