Winners of the Northern European Cup set fastest times in Formula Renault 3.5 test
Antonio Felix Da Costa, Kevin Magnussen and Marco Sorensen have collected their prize for being first three drivers of the Northern European Cup in 2009. In the morning of the 27th of November the young drivers came together at brand new Motorland Aragon, and showed their talent by putting the best three times on the screens during the test with the Formula Renault 3.5.
Fastest and most surprising driver of the day was Kevin Magnussen. Although he never stepped in the World Series car before, he managed to set a time (1.43.609) that proved to be unbeatable by any of the other 29 drivers testing that day.
Antonio Felix da Costa, the 2009 champion, who did an amazing job in the past season of the Northern European Cup, was testing with the team of P1 and set the second time in the morning, and fastest one in the afternoon session. Marco Sorensen ran with RC Racing, together with the Finnish Champion of Formula Renault 2.0 Jukka Honkavuori. Sorensen, who is one of four drivers selected by the Renault Driver Development programme, also had his first meters in the 3.5 formula car, and managed an impressive third place in the final list of the meeting.
The fact that the best three drivers in this test come from the Northern European Cup, should be seen as proof that this national championship is a professional platform for young driver talent. Competitors in NEC get the chance to develop their skills to the maximum and get the best preparation to grow to faster and bigger championships.
