Formula Renault to double at Homestead Miami

The next race meeting for the North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship, at Homestead Miami Speedway on September 10-12, will feature a two-race format. The extra race, with the series' exciting standing starts, will serve as round eight of the 2004 championship as the series visits the Miami market for the first time since the Formula Renault Winter Invitational.

"We think that adding a second race to the weekend will help the drivers gain that much more experience in race conditions, which is vital as a developmental level series," said Team and Driver relations Manager Allen Berg. "The added race will give our drivers time in those high-pressure situations, as well as improving their racecraft, so we are pretty excited about the Homestead weekend. We'd also like to thank our partners at Grand American for working with us to make this possible."

The first race of the weekend is scheduled to get started at 5pm on Saturday, with the second race making its standing start at 3pm on Sunday. Championship points leader Juan Martin Ponte will be looking to extend his lead, but with only thirty points separating the next five drivers in the championship, the races should both prove very exciting once again. Miami resident Ricardo Imery of Venezuela, who was second in the points standings after the Toronto round, will also be looking forward to racing in front of his home crowd as he works to regain spots in the championship.

The Formula Renault V6 Championship is the top rung on the North American Formula Renault Championship ladder, which also includes the North American Formula Renault 1600 Championship and the North American Formula Renault 2000 Championship. The Formula Renault V6 is expected to make its North American competition debut in the latter stages of the2004 North American Formula Renault 2000 season.
