IDAFAR HOPING FOR CHANGE IN FORTUNE AT OULTON PARK
Menasheh Idafar is aiming to bounce back from a disappointing conclusion to the previous Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship event at Donington Park when the category moves on to Oulton Park in Cheshire for rounds seven and eight this weekend, 30th/31st May.
While the 18-year-old produced a mighty performance in qualifying at Donington to post a superb top six start for the fifth round of the 2009 season, in the races Menasheh suffered a huge amount of misfortune.
Undeterred, the Hillspeed racer is aiming to bounce back strongly at Oulton Park as he bids to continue his great qualifying form and convert that into a brace of consistently good race results to get his championship back on track -- both in the overall standings and the Graduate Cup contest for category rookies.
Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw continues to be impressed by the pace Menasheh is showing during his first year in what is arguably the most competitive Formula Renault series on the globe. With a little more luck, team and driver know they have the potential to run closely at the front on a regular basis.
"Menasheh has shown very good pace this year, to qualify in the top six on more than one occasion is impressive stuff in his first season in Formula Renault UK", said Ollerenshaw, "Unfortunately though he's had more than his fair share of bad luck in some of the races.
"Oulton Park is a very challenging circuit for any driver and is one Menasheh does enjoy, the track suits his attacking driving style so we hope he'll go quickly at the weekend. At Donington we had the pace but the results went against us, at Oulton we hope to have better luck and have a successful weekend."
As perhaps the most demanding track on the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship calendar, Oulton Park's Island Circuit is certainly unique and competitors will have the benefit of a pre-event practice run on Friday, 29th May, ahead of the weekend's race action.
Qualifying for rounds seven and eight of the season will take place at 10.40 and 15.05 on Saturday, 30th May, with both races timetabled for Sunday, 31st May -- round seven will start at around 12.50 and round eight is expected to commence at 17.50. The first race is also scheduled to be screened live across the UK on ITV4 -- Freeview channel 28, cable channel 117 and digital satellite channel 120.
