Jani & Lopez, simply the best
Today's qualifying sessions were the confirmation of the dominant displays in the 3 free practice sessions by Lopez and Jani who never let any other driver take one of the first 2 positions. In the morning qualifying Jani was unlucky to miss the front row after falling foul of traffic in his quickest lap, while Lopez confirmed his tremendous return to the series he won in 2003 by taking 1st position. Rojas, finishing in 15th position was frustrated to be held up by traffic when his tyres were at their peak.
In the second qualifying session both Jani and Lopez felt they could have gone faster even though they took the top 2 spots. Jani made his fastest lap very early because he was held up in his final attempt to improve his time and Lopez had a lot more oversteer than in the morning's qualification. Rojas also made an improvement managing to push his way up to 9th position.
Neel Jani : "I am very happy with my results today although it was annoying to get caught up in traffic in both qualifications, this afternoon my car was nearly perfect and I hope to be strong in the races. "
Jose-Maria Lopez : "To get a pole and a 2nd position after coming back into the team so quickly shows how good the connection is between me and the team. We have made progress all weekend and improved the car step by step. In the 2nd qualifying I did my best but with oversteering problems I could not get the pole any way."
Memo Rojas : It was really hard today because there was so much traffic. In the afternoon things went better and the gap with pole is not so big."
