CARLO VAN DAM AND RACING FOR BELGIUM JOIN FORCES TO WIN EUROCUP MÉGANE TROPHY!

VLAARDINGEN, 10 APRIL 2007 - Carlo van Dam will race for Racing for Belgium in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy this year. The Dutchman will run all the races of this spectacular series alongside his programme in the ATS Formula 3 Cup. The S-T-A-R-T driver is highly pleased with this unique situation, racing in two different series in the upcoming race season. The driver from Vlaardingen, Holland already had his first taste of the fast race car. At the Paul Ricard and Barcelona race circuits Van Dam was in the top of the classification all the time!

After a couple of successful years in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, Van Dam announced his move to the ATS Formula 3 Cup last week, where he will rejoin Van Amersfoort Racing after being parted with the team for three years. Another challenge for Van Dam is the Eurocup Mégane Trophy, which is part of the World Series by Renault. The Eurocup Mégane Trophy is one of the series that attracts the crowds during the prestigious World Series by Renault weekends. The races with the Renault Mégane V6 cars in which the Dutch driver will take part, are driven as support race of this big autosport event. Together with the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) it is the most competitive and spectacular series in Europe. With seven race weekends (fourteen races) the Renault Mégane Trophy (with 330 brake horse power and a standard sequential gearbox) is a spectacular racing series in which many international top drivers compete against each other!

Despite being active in two series, Van Dams aims for the season remain unchanged. The 21-year old talent and his Van Amersfoort Racing team have set their sights on the ATS Formula 3 Cup title. Van Dam will also make a lot of miles in the Racing for Belgium car. The team, lead by Wim Coekelbergs, won the 2005 Eurocup Mégane Trophy with Jan Heylen and wants to repeat this success story this season.

On March 30 Van Dam made his official Mégane Trophy debut at the Paul Ricard circuit in France. It was his first experience with the quick car. After a problem while shifting back, due to a faulty sensor, was solved Van Dam went for it on the second day of testing. On the ultra fast High Tech Test Track Van Dam was looking for the track limits and ended the day in sixth place. The test was continued on the Barcelona circuit on April 4 and 5. During the two days on the Spanish track the rain kept pouring down, which meant Van Dam could get used to the car in wet conditions as well. On old tyres he ended the first day in a decent sixth place. Van Dam felt like a fish in the water on the cold and wet second day of testing. Despite the never-ending rain he set the fastest time of the day (2:10.795). With this time he was 8 tenths of a second quicker than the rest of the field! The result meant Van Dam is looking forward to the championship with a lot of confidence!

CARLO VAN DAM: "I am extremely happy that I will do the Eurocup Mégane Trophy as well as the ATS Formula 3 Cup this year! This "bomb-on-wheels" can be compared to a DTM car. The reaction speed is incredible! Last year I was able to see a lot of Mégane Trophy races during the World Series by Renault weekends and it was always spectacular, from the first to the last minute. Beside my ambition to go for a top classification this season I am looking forward to the many door-to-door fights that are a trademark of this series! Last weeks test went more than prosperous. It is incredible that this team is giving me the chance to race for them in this exciting series so I can develop myself even more as a racing driver. I would like to thank Wim Coekelbergs for this opportunity to take part in a great adventure!"
