Promising test for Pedro Petiz and Dimitri Enjalbert

Pedro Petiz and Dimitri Enjalbert, who finished first and second in the Eurocup Megane Trophy with Tech 1 Racing, were invited to test the Oreca team's Saleen S7-R. With the advice of Stephane Ortelli, they took maximum advantage of the opportunity to try out one of today's front-running GT1 cars.

For the drivers racing in the Eurocup Megane Trophy, endurance racing is a clear way forwards in their careers. Pedro Petiz and Dimitri Enjalbert were understandably delighted to have the opportunity to test the Saleen taken to the French GT FFSA and LMS titles by renowned private team Oreca.

After Stephane Ortelli had completed a few installation laps to verify the set-up, Pedro was the first to take the wheel for about 15 laps in used tyres. The Portuguese driver said: " It's a very good car, which was even better than I was expected. It looks like it's very long, but the chassis is extremely efficient. " Dimitri had the same impression when it was his turn to drive the American machine in similar conditions. "There's a big difference between the apparent size of the car and its agility -- which is not far off that of a Megane Trophy car!"

The afternoon programme would include a run of five laps on used tyres for each driver, followed by a series of laps on new tyres. As usual, Pedro proved to be very consistent: he completed five consecutive laps with a variation of just three tenths of a second between his fastest and his slowest lap. Having adapted well to the Saleen, Dimitri set fastest time of the day with a benchmark of 1'24''19.

Dimitri Enjalbert: "I was delighted to work with Oreca, a team that is just as professional as Tech 1 Racing. We'd like to thank Hugues de Chaunac, Pierre Dieudonne, Stephane Ortelli and the entire technical team for having taken this test so seriously. The way of working is completely different to what we have experienced with the Megane as everything is geared towards endurance. The engineer was looking not just at my times, but also at fuel consumption and the way I was using the tyres. I learnt a lot from this approach and it gave me a lot of information that could be useful for my future career. Now I know that I really enjoy this! My priority next year will be to challenge for the Eurocup title, but I am obviously open to any opportunities in French GT FFSA or the LMS."

Pedro Petiz: "I'm very proud to have had the opportunity to work with Oreca. After having tested the Formula Renault 3.5 car at the beginning of the year, this was another excellent present! To tell the truth, this day has changed my perception of GT racing. The Saleen handles brilliantly in the tight corners and is extremely stable in the quick corners. The braking is also instantly impressive. I tried to do everything that an endurance-racing driver would do for my run on new tyres. I proved myself to be consistent, and I think that this was a quality that helped me to win the Eurocup title this year. I've got two things that I am aiming for next year: a factory drive in the WTCC or an LMP2 car for the Le Mans Series. I hope that everything will come together in the next few months."
