The FR 2000 Heads East
This weekend the Eurocup is on its way East for round five of the championship. From Hockenheim, the FR 2000 paddock will be setting up shop at the Brno circuit, set in the picturesque Czech countryside. As Friday. ever, Brno will set the stage for a tremendous weekend, both from a sporting point of view as well as for the crowds, who will be flocking to the circuit as they do each year.
Get ready for an excellent show trackside as well. After round four in Germany, where Kochem (Jenzer Motorsport), Pagenaud (Graff Racing) and Speed (Motopark Academy) held the monopoly on the podium, the action is looking hotter than ever. Pagenaud has taken over the championship lead with 142 points, with Scott Speed in second on 126 and chasing hard after his two successes at Hockenheim. Meanwhile Kochem, despite the gap between him and the leaders, will be feeling confident at Brno as he raced here last year in the Masters, where he joined Pagenaud on the podium.
But while this undoubtedly gives these two drivers a slight edge, Scott's speed continues to turn heads. So the bets are definitely still on, especially as among the drivers lining up this weekend are several who are already familiar with the distinctive Brno circuit. Maldonado (Cram Competition), Kofler (JD Motorsport) and Walz will all be racing on familiar territory.
The gloves will be off right from free practise, with everyone out to find the right set-up, especially as the car has had many changes since the off season. Absent for this round will be the French SG Formula team and its drivers Moreau and Clairay, who are instead opting to concentrate on the French championship, round three of which is taking place this weekend at Pau.
Brno marks the half-way point of the Formula Renault 2000 championship, and as things stand you'd have to be very brave to pick out the title winner in this exciting competition.
