First Formula Renault Eurocup race for Kuba Giermaziak
Just one week after the end of the Formula Renault NEC, in which he finished 10th, Kuba Giermaziak was in Barcelona, where he took part in the final round of the 2007 Formula Renault Eurocup.
The rookie driver knew he was in for a tough weekend, as the Eurocup is one of the most competitive championships in the world! "Yes, I know it will be difficult, but the main objective here is to learn and gain experience", he commented ahead of the weekend.
Racing on a completely new track for him, Kuba made good progress in the two Free Practice sessions, but his inexperience still showed in Qualifying, where he was not able to do better than the 34th fastest time for both races.
Kuba had a good start in Race 1, and moved up some positions. Unfortunately, as he pushed hard to climb up the field, he went off the track and into the gravel, ending his race early. Race 2 went better for the young Polish driver. He had another good start, and a good rhythm during the race, helped by some changes to the car setup, meant that he finished 26th.
Speaking after the weekend, Kuba commented that "It was a really good experience for me! I am disappointed with qualifying, because I know I could have done much better. That really influenced the race results as well, because I started so much at the back! I'm happy with the work we did this weekend, and I am really motivated to start preparing for next season!"
The 2007 season might be over but Kuba Giermaziak is not stopping just yet, as he joins his Motopark Academy team in an intensive testing programme through the winter. More news to follow soon!
