Argentinians drivers keep showing their talent around the old continent. This weekend was the turn of Esteban Guerrieri to take the championship in the European Formula Renault in the last round disputed at Donington.
The third place in the first race in the track of 4.020 m. was enough to close the chances of his rivals and finally say CHAMPION. The second competition Esteban retired trying to advance.
It was just another usual wet British journey for many people, but not for Guerrieri. In his third season in Europe he finally arrived to what he was wanting so much. Be champion.
Esteban`s big history in cars began in 2000, when with only 15 years won the Argentinian Formula Renault tournament. This put him in a plane in Italy for 2001, where after a year of experience always supported by the Argentinian team, the Lincoln Sport Group, started to build his dream along with his room-mates, the today Eurocup FRV6 champion, Jose Maria ¨Pechito¨ Lopez and Mariano Altuna, who is now racing in Touring cars in Argentina.
2002 was already a very good season for Guerrieri. Third in the German FR with four victories and the championship in the Italian FR Winter Cup shown that he was mature to go in 2003 for being the king in Formula Renault series.
Last weekend the Argentinian closed the Italian FR season taking the second place in the overall standings. Guerrieri arrived to Donington knowing he must get the European tournament.
About what happened in the British circuit, no one better than Guerrieri to explain us: ¨ In the morning the track was wet but with sun, so we started with dry set up. In the beginning I took the first place, then (Ryan) Sharp passed me and the same did Van Den Garde who was quick in the first laps because he was with wet set up. By halfway through the track was more dry and Sharp, who was second, and I tried to reach Van Den Garde. In the last laps Sharp took the leadership and I decided not to risk and stay in third until the chequered flag¨, commented Esteban about the first competition.
¨In the second race I started from 22th, in the 3rd lap I was 13th. and then in a fast turn I took the border and lost control and was the end for me¨, said the 18 years old driver and he add: ¨ Is a great happiness to get this result because it shows the work we done day after day to reach our aims that we put in the beginning of the year. I want a take this opportunity to dedicate this especially to my mother, whose birthday`s is on monday, also to my family, the Cram team and everyone in the Lincoln Sport Group, to the press and to all that in some way supported me¨, completed the new European FR Champion.
After four double rounds and 8 races disputed, Guerrieri ends the season with three victories, two in Brno and one in Oschersleben, and two poles position, both in Brno.
Is the third consecutive weekend that an Argentinian driver takes a championship in Europeans tracks. Adrian Hang did it in the Italian Touring Car Championship and ¨Pechito¨ Lopez last week in the Eurocup FRV6. Don`t forget Juan Cruz Alvarez, who is leading the World Series Light.
Young drivers as Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen, both in Formula One this days, raced in the European FR, where the F1 teams director`s eyes go every year.
Now the season is finish, Esteban Guerrieri and his people must start thinking in the future.
On December 1st, the Argentinian will test a car of the Eurocup FRV6 at Paul Ricard and also has chances of be testing a F-3000. Guerrieri is the champion and now can`t mistake in the next step.
