AFR Championship comes back to ZIC
After the water-testing race in April, the AFR Championship will bring its first points race of the season back to Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC) on May 21st-23rd, joining the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) weekend. The unsettled weather will bring more possibilities to the championship and make the Saturday qualifying even more important.
Two young guns from Thailand, Sandy Stuvik (15 years old) and Tin Sritrai (20 years old) stood out in April race and they confirmed with Asia Racing Team (ART) that they will run full season in AFR. Suriya Bala, from Singapore, will join the race as the Thai's teammate. Zhicong Li & Shanqi Zhang, two young Chinese drivers from PTRS racing team, will join the championship this weekend. Shanqi Zhang, who has raced with AFR for several years, marched into F3 Australian this year and judging from the ranking, Zhang is experiencing a good learning curve and the FR 2.0 seasons prepared him well for competitions of higher levels. The only female driver Samin Briceno (Venezuela), the French Patrice BONZOM and Angelo NEGRO from Italy will continue their performance in AFR with Top Speed racing team. Champ Motorsport brings David Lau from Hong Kong and Kevin O'hara from Ireland to the championship this time.
2010 season, AFR's promoter FRD brought something new to the AFR regulation, making the AFR platform an even fairer one for all the teams and drivers, e.g. According to the regulation, during the race week, all AFR drivers/teams are not allowed to go on the track until Thursday. AFR features one official practice on Friday afternoon and another one on Saturday morning; Qualifying and round 1 on Saturday afternoon; Round 2 on Sunday morning.
