Caldarelli shines in the last show of the season

A neverending weekend, that's the one that Andrea Caldarelli experienced on the Montmelo racetrack in Barcellona, where he was competing both in the Renault 2.0 West European Cup and Eurocup championships' last race of the season. The SG dri- ver from Pescara really filled his contract: a win in WEC race2, two runner-up perfor- mances in Eurocup's race 2 and WEC's race 1, plus the third place in Eurocup's race 1. In the European series, Caldarelli signed the second time in the Superpole right behind his team mate Ricciardo. At the start Vergne and Quaife-Hobbs sprinted from the back of the grid in order to take the lead, but crashed at the first turn. The track was wet. Thanks to his rain tyres Caldarelli took the first position, but as the track dried he was forced to slow down the pace and ended third after Bottas and Hegewald: a farewell to his championships hopes. In race 2 Ricciardo took the leadership, while Caldarelli fighted hard with Vergne for the second position and finally got the upper hand. In WEC' race 1, after the second time gained in qualifying, the driver from Pescara keept the second position behind his team mate Ricciardo, helping him to win the championships. In race 2 Caldarelli won his third race of the season, the second in a row after Magny-Cours. Caldarelli have now good reasons to be happy of his 2008 final balance: three victories (and 10 podiums) in the WEC, ten podiums out 14 in the Eurocup series, and the third place in both campionship rankings.
