AFR championship will bring fierce competition to C1 race weekend

The third points weekend of the AFR championship will return to Shanghai International Circuit (SIC) on August 22nd & 23rd, with promised excitement in the Challenge Show (C1) race weekend.

The championship features six teams from Asia: Asia Racing Team (ART), Ghia motorsports, March 3 (M3), Pena racing team, team PTRS and FRD racing team. The driver line-up looks young and internationalized: more than half of the drivers are teenagers from eight different countries and regions in Europe and Asia.

The AFR championship brought its first points race to SIC in May, and after two race weekends (four rounds) the drivers have taken turns leading the points table with fierce competition. Alon Day, the young driver from Israel, went home with double wins after rounds one and two - but when everyone assumed that Day would continue to do an excellent job, Benjamin Rouget stood out and brought double wins to team ART in Beijing rounds three and four and is now leading the points table by three points. Luis SA SILVA, another driver from ART, is third on the points table. In the Asia category, Zhang Zhiqiang is leading the category points with a clear lead. FRD racing team's Tengyi Jiang, the former A1 driver, currently ranks 2nd on the Asia points table with the young driver Zhang Shanqi (PTRS) in 3rd.

In addition, the AFR championship will have three more races (six rounds) in the 2009 season and the young drivers will try their best to add an impressive achievement to their resume as professional drivers.
