If well begun is half done, Draco Racing can be really happy with what they achieved today in Alcaniz. On the Motorland Aragon track the Italo-Brazilian team was among the frontrunners in Day 1 of the season’s first collective test, lapping steadily in the top 5 with Pietro Fantin and in the top 10 with Luca Ghiotto.
Brazilian talent Fantin posted the 4th quickest time of the morning session with 1’39”987, and in the afternoon he nearly shaved off a full second to achieve a 1’39”122 that was worth P5. Italian young gun Ghiotto, on the other hand, showed a very similar pattern: 9th fastest in the morning and the best rookie in the field with a 1’40”315, in the afternoon he was 9th once again after improving his laptime up to 1’39”668. Such an amazing progression was undoubtedly boosted by a very good comprehension of the new stickier tyres provided by Michelin for the 2014 season.
Pietro Fantin:
“Today we did a very good job, as clearly proved by the fact that we steadily fought for the top spots in the timesheet. Maybe we should find some more performance when it comes to making the most of new rubber, as in that respect a couple of teams are better than us. On the other hand, anyway, our car is really quick on used tyres, something that could be useful in the long WSR races."
Luca Ghiotto:
“Looking at the full picture today was a good day, even if I’d be happier if my gap from the front in the second session was smaller. In any case I’m working on a schedule that has been planned and agreed with Draco, and today everything went to plan. I’m also glad to see that I’m now perfectly fit to push the car as much as it’s needed, the progress compared to the testing I did in november is amazing. I really worked out a lot in the winter break, so I’m happy to see it pay of."
