The final sprint begins in Budapest

Included on the calendar since 2007, Budapest will welcome the Formula Renault 3.5 Series and Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 for round five of the 2014 season.

For this classic on the Fast, Free and Fun event schedule, the Hungarian fans will be spoiled with a dense programme mixing the races of the F1 driver development academy put in place by Renault Sport Technologies and the numerous attractions, including the Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 Show.

Home of the Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986, the Hungaroring allows young guns to measure themselves on a track that is now a staple in the sport’s premier championship. Integrated into the World Series by Renault in 2007, the Hungarian round offers a technical challenge to aspiring champions.

The success of the World Series by Renault is unwavering with more than 100,000 fans each season. Last year, the massive crowd witnessed races that were decisive in the championship battles and this edition promises more of the same! The main attraction, the Infiniti Red Bull Racing F1 Show will feature 13-time Grand Prix winner, David Coulthard!

Alongside the Renault Classic Show and Renault Sport Show, the New Renault Twingo will be at the Hungaroring to put in a public demonstration run concurrently to the many free attractions of the New Renault Village. With driving simulators to the Pit Stop Challenge in addition cto road safety booths, spectators will enjoy all that the Renault world has to offer.

Formula Renault 3.5 Series: two Spaniards for the lead

Leading the championship since Monza, Carlos Sainz (DAMS) heads into the final sprint as the overwhelming favourite. The Red Bull Junior Team driver will want to show that he has what it takes to move up to F1, while also trying to pull away from fellow Spaniard, Roberto Merhi (Zeta Corse), who scored a large number of points before the summer break and is as ambitious as ever to take the title following his first free-practice session with the Caterham F1 Team this Friday.

Other drivers also want to remain in contention. Winner at Budapest in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 last year, Pierre Gasly (Arden Motorsport) would like to take his maiden victory in the category especially since Fortec Motorsport’s Oliver Rowland and Sergey Siroktin are right behind him in the points. A top three finisher at the Hungaroring in 2012, Will Stevens (Strakka Racing) completes the chase group and he too would like to move up a few places in the hierarchy.

Zoel Amberg (AVF) has a few points in hand from the rest of the drivers in the top ten, which includes Marlon Stockinger (Lotus), Jazeman Jaafar (ISR) and Norman Nato (DAMS). All want to battle at the front of the field straight away. This goal will be shared by Matias Laine (Strakka Racing), whose streak of five point scoring results was broken just before the summer break, and Pietro Fantin (International Draco Racing) and Matthieu Vaxiviere (Lotus), who took his first podium result in Germany.

For Luca Ghiotto (International Draco Racing), William Buller (Arden Motorsport), Oscar Tunjo (Pons Racing), Meindert van Buuren (Pons Racing), Beitske Visser (AVF) and Roman Mavlanov (Zeta Corse), the tight and technical Hungaroring track could offer the opportunity to shine and score precious points. After finishing just outside the top ten in his debut, Cameron Twynham (Comtec Racing) will be back, while Tech 1 Racing will line-up Canadian Nicholas Latifi alongside Marco Sørensen.
