Season 10 of the World Series by Renault is underway!

This evening kicked off season 10, which begins on April 12 at Monza with the first race of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

While the collective tests continue, the World Series by Renault launch party was held this Thursday at the “L’Atelier Renault” on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. For the occasion, all the partners came together for the start of the 2014 season in the presence of Alain Prost, David Coulthard and Sébastien Buemi. This evening kicked off season 10, which begins on April 12 at Monza with the first race of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series.

In the company of several past Formula 1 drivers, Renault Sport Technologies CEO, Patrice Ratti, began by highlighting the excitement generated by the 2013 World Series by Renault campaign, including the championships and attractions that continue to bring out large crowds across Europe.

“The results are excellent: on the track with incredible battles on all levels, but also the attendance of more than five million spectators, who have come to the circuits since 2005,” said Patrice Ratti. “From Spain to Russia, we offer events that are both sporting and popular successes that continue to be praised. Kevin Magnussen is the 17th driver to move on to F1 after starring in the World Series by Renault, which also confirms excellence.”

Philippe Klein, member of the Renault Executive Committee and Executive Vice-President for Product Planning, Programs and LCV supported Mr. Ratti’s thoughts: “Renault has a long tradition in motor racing. For 10 years, the World Series by Renault events have been very important for the brand because they incarnate essential values for Renault. The human side, thanks to the proximity with the spectators and competition.”

Philippe Klein and Patrice Ratti thanked Elf and Michelin, who have been partners of the World Series by Renault since day one and presented commemorative trophies to Thierry de Feydeau, Director of Competition for Total, and to Philippe Mussati, Michelin Customer Competition Director.

Drawing on this success in the professionalism and know-how of Renault Sport Technologies, the World Series by Renault is also extremely popular with drivers. In 2014, 60% of the Formula One World Championship field –including three world champions, Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel – learned their race craft in Formula Renault. And nearly all the test drivers also came from the ranks of the Renault Sport Technologies driver development programme.

“We offer a rich calendar with such well-known circuits as Monza, Spa and Monaco “, detailed Arnaud Boulanger, Competition Director at Renault Sport Technologies. “This year, we will welcome invited series such as rounds of the Formula Renault 1.6 and national Clio Cup categories, in support of the World Series by Renault. We have also renewed our partnership with Infiniti Red Bull Racing that will offer a coveted Formula 1 test at the end of the season to the champion of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. ”

Renault Ambassador and four-time Formula One World Champion, Alain Prost added: “The event has attained an enormous amount of credibility these past few years in the industry and has become essential in making the accession to F1. The performance level of the Formula Renault 3.5 is getting as close as it can to Formula 1 with a reasonable budget. Away from the track, the World Series by Renault is also very popular. For many people, this event lets them discover motor racing up close.”

David Coulthard, winner of 13 Grands Prix, during his F1 career, agrees. “The number of drivers who have moved from the World Series by Renault to Formula 1 speaks for itself,” added the Scot. “As simple as the concept is, it functions perfectly. It is a fantastic opportunity for young talents to express themselves, which never goes unnoticed by the elite teams. And for the fans, it is a unique chance to discover and be in the middle of the motor racing ambiance and it’s all free of charge.”

The Formula Renault 3.5 Series will open the 2014 season at the legendary Monza circuit on 12 April before being joined by the other categories on 26 and 27 April at the Motorland Aragon circuit.
