Jan Charouz to start from 10th row in Monaco

Unusual qualifying system which is used for Monaco round of the World Series by Renault has caused a bit illogical order on the grid. Jan Charouz will start the race from the 10th row on the grid even though there are drivers in front of him who were slower.

The drivers were split to two groups in Saturday's qualifying. The results of each group decided positions on one side of the grid. Jan Charouz was placed to the second, more competitive group where he finished 10th. The P1 Motorsport driver is therefore going to line up 19th on the grid although he was faster than several drivers from the other group. As an example he was six tenths faster comparing to his teammate Walter Grubmueller jun who will start 16th.

Jan Charouz, P1 Motorsport driver: "I am disappointed because the qualifying did not go as we had hoped. Furthermore, the Monte Carlo qualifying has different and a bit illogical format as it was in two groups and each group decided about one side of the grid. Therefore I will be on the grid behind drivers who were a quite a bit slower than me. Overtaking is extremely difficult on this street track, so the disappointment is really big."

The race will be broadcasted live on the Eurosport channel. It starts at 11 on Sunday, May 16.
