World Series virtual champ, Ricardo Zonta, will close one of his best seasons this weekend after taking double win at Curitiba.
Montagny strengthen his distance 14 points ahead of Leinders, both will battle for 2nd place in Sao Paulo.
The Argentinean Nicolás Filiberti drops off from Zele Motorsport.
Sao Paulo, 5 December 2002 ? The Autódromo Internacional José Carlos Pace will hold the last two rounds of the Telefónica World Series by Nissan on the next 8th of December. Ricardo Zonta will face this weekend at the Circuit of Interlagos the last two races of the Season. He took the third double win of the Season in Curitiba, his home race, in front of 25,000 supporters. The former F1 driver has won 9 of the 16 races so far, and he intends to degree with "cum laude" this weekend with another two victories. The fight for the second position in the Telefónica World Series by Nissan still open: the Frenchman Franck Montagny (Racing Engineering) takes now an advantage of 14 points from the Belgian Bas Leinders (KTR).
The Argentinean Nicolás Filiberti, who reached an agreement for the two last meetings of the Series with Zele Motorsport, will not participate in this meeting. He has declared that after achieving such poor results in Curitiba, he is no longer motivated for racing. Michael Zele, team manager of the Austrian-based squad is said to start negotiations with some South American top drives.
On the last week-end at Curitiba, the Telefónica World Series by Nissan underlined the enormous technical equality again, by putting 16 Dallara Nissan SN01 in the same second during Qualifying 2. The Macao driver André Couto (Vergani Racing), the Sweden Peter Sundberg (RC Motorsport), and the talent of Narain Karthikeyan (RC Motorsport), who achieved his first pole, were in high. The Briton Justin Wilson (Racing Engineering) battled strongly with Couto in Race 1 to take second position, which finally went to the Vergani Racing top driver. The Spaniards Antonio García and Polo Villaamil, both in the same team (Adrián Campos Motorsport) swapped fifth positions.
Again, five Brazilian drivers will be in the Official Entered list (maybe six?): Ricardo Zonta and Tuka Rocha (Gabord Competición), the current Euro F3000 winner, Jaime Melo (Zele Motorsport), Wagner Ebrahim (GD Racing) and Rodrigo Sperafico (Repsol-Meycom).
It was a great debut for the North American driver Paul Edwards (KTR), the first US driver that participates in the Telefónica World Series by Nissan, who finished his second race in the seventh position, getting his first points.
Milka Duno (Vergani Racing) has become the first woman to compete with the 415 Hp Dallara Nissan SN01 cars. Duno achieved one of her main goals by finishing both races.
