MORTARA SAMPLES WORLD SERIES BY RENAULT
Newly-crowned Formula 3 Euroseries Vice Champion Edoardo Mortara had his first taste of the World Series by Renault this week at a two-day test in Valencia with Ultimate Signature on Wednesday and Thursday. The new Anglo-French squad claimed second in the World Series by Renault teams' championship this year as well as third in the drivers' rankings thanks to Fabio Carbone.
On his first acquaintance with the 500-horsepower car, Edoardo ended up fifth at the official test, with a best time of 1m22.592s at the tricky Spanish circuit. During the second day, it was impossible for him to improve the time as the car did not have the same balance. Nonetheless, it was an extremely profitable test for Edoardo and he was able to give the Ultimate Signature engineers some valuable feedback about the 3.5 litre challenger.
Edoardo, who is a Volkswagen factory driver, used the test in order to build up his overall experience as he prepares for the season to come. The 21-year-old commented: "It was a very interesting couple of days, and I'd like to thank Volkswagen very much for allowing me to test the car with Ultimate Signature, who did a very good job throughout both days of the test. The World Series by Renault car was quite different to what I have been used to, but it was a lot of fun. We tried a lot of different things, but it was a pity that we couldn't get the balance of the car right for day two -- as I'm sure that we could have been able to improve our times. It's not a problem at all though, as the main purpose of the test was to gain more experience. We did quite a few laps, so it is mission accomplished for us."
The 21-year-old went straight to the Essen Motor Show in Germany from the Spanish circuit, where he is appearing on behalf of Volkswagen this weekend. Edoardo's plans for the 2009 season are currently being finalised, and are scheduled to be announced in due course.
