AVF cruises to the top-5 in Race 1 at Alcaniz

It’s been a good day for the AVF team today at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Alcaniz, where the Spanish operation lined-up for the second round of the 2014 World Series Renault 3.5. Both drivers enjoyed solid runs and the team also held a potential podium position for the first part of the day.

With an extremely quick start, Swiss racer Zoel Amberg took third place at the first corner, and then defended his position from the attacks of Oliver Rowland. Unfortunately, soon he developed some oversteer issues and during the 14th lap he had to settle in turn 1 losing two positions. Anyway, Zoel showed great speed overall and cruised to a positive top-5 finish getting valuable points: the disappointment for the missed podium place was definitely compensated by his great display.

Dutch female racer Beitske Visser also drove a clean race as she kept climbing her learning curve in the series. She continued to lower her lap times, especially in the closing stages when she was able to keep the same pace of some of the frontrunners. The 19-year-old is now aiming to improve her position in Qualifying 2, set for tomorrow at 10:05. The closing race of the weekend will be taking place in the afternoon at 14:00.

Zoel Amberg (Q1 - P5; R1 - P5): “The start was very good, and I managed to recover two positions, but after just four or five laps the rear tires started to wear out so I got a lot of oversteer. I tried to defend myself, but Rowland made a smart move and I also lost one spot to Stockinger. On the bright side, we have a good qualifying pace. I could have probably been one and a half tenths faster. The issues we had yesterday were completely resolved and I’m looking forward to perform well tomorrow”.

Beitske Visser (Q1 - P21; R1 - P18): “I had a very good start, I passed four cars but unfortunately I got the outside line at the first corner and I lost them again. The race was conditioned by the grid position. In the opening stages I flatspotted one tire a little, but I tried to catch the cars I had in front. Here it’s so difficult to overtake though, so I held my position. For tomorrow, we have to improve qualifying, and if we’ll be able to start in a better position, I will build on that for Race 2”.
