Virgin Racing’s Jaime Alguersuari was fastest for most of the second practice session at Monaco, and the Spaniard was one of only two drivers to break the 54-second barrier after he set a 53.872s lap.

The former Toro Rosso driver will have to take a 10-place grid penalty for changes made to the Rechargeable Energy Storage System ahead of the weekend.

Most of the drivers completed qualifying simulations during the 30-minute session, running at the full 200 KW power.

The session was briefly red flagged twice for the same troublesome bollard that was torn from its mountings in the first session. This time though it came to rest twice on the racing line and broke up the session.

As per the first session many cars had brake locking and kerb hopping moments but Daniel Abt, in the Abt Sportsline entry, was the only driver to spin when he rotated at Saint Devote.

Jaime Alguersauri, Karun Chandhok and Loic Duval have been given 10-place grid position penalties for changing the Rechargeable Energy Storage System.

The qualifying draw has also just been made, with drivers favouring the later groups as the track continues to evolve…
